Preparing the bootable EFI Recovery Utility USB device
How to boot the EFI Recovery Utility
- On the machine experiencing the problem, enter the system BIOS settings and turn off Secure Boot. Please note, this is temporary.
- Save and exit the BIOS and turn the machine off.
- Insert the USB device and boot the machine holding the necessary key to access the boot menu. Consult the machine's manual for guidance on how to access the boot menu.
- Select the USB device from the boot menu and press Enter to boot from it.
- If the device has booted correctly, you will see the image below:

Once you have prepared your bootable EFI Recovery Utility USB device and booted into the ESET Encryption Recovery Utility, please follow the appropriate section below:
How to Perform a Read/Write Test
To perform a read/write test:
- Enter the number that correlates to the "Diagnostics" option and press Enter
- This will display a new list of options, please enter the number that correlates to the "Disk R/W test" option and press Enter, the following notice will be displayed:

- Enter Y if you are happy to proceed, the process will automatically begin
- Once this process has finished it will provided you with a message stating whethe or not the test was sucessful
How to Display Disk Information
To display the disk information:
- Enter the number that correlates to the "Display Disk Information" option and press Enter
- Now you must Enter the number of the disk you wish to gather the information from and press Enter, you will then see something similar to the following image:

How to Search Disks for Metadata
To search the disks for metadata:
- Enter the number that correlates to the "Diagnostics" option and press Enter
- This will display a new list of options, please enter the number that correlates to the "Search Disks for meta data" option and press Enter, the following warning will be displayed:

- Enter Y if you are happy to proceed, the process will automatically begin
- Once the search has been complete, 4 files will be generated and saved in the "\efi\boot\" directory of your USB device
