How to setup DESlock+ on a machine without an Internet Connection
Article ID: KB517 email a link to this article

To setup a managed system with DESlock+ which doesn’t have a connection to the internet please follow the instructions below –

For managed systems it is advised that the Enterprise Server is connected to the internet then a Local Proxy is used. This way the Enterprise Server can connect to the Internet to generate the activation codes and the client systems can be encased in a Local Proxy where they will not have access to the internet however they will still be able to activate due to the server running a Local Cloud Proxy.

Please see the following article for more information KB304 - Switching Enterprise Server Proxy

For managed systems which are connected to the internet or standalone clients please follow the instructions below –

To carry out these steps you will need the system which isn’t connected to the internet and a system which is connected to the internet. If you do not have a system which is connected to the internet you will not be able to carry out these steps.

On the system with Internet Access –

Step 1 -  When you purchase DESlock+ client standalone Licence you will receive a Product ID and Product Key for each licence and a link to download the client software. Download the client software.

Step 2 – Open the DESlock+ client software installer and restart when prompted.

For instructions on how to install DESlock+ on a managed client please see the following article KB253 - Installing a managed version of DESlock+

For instructions on how to install DESlock+ on a standalone client please see the following article KB124 - Getting started with DESlock+ (Installation and licencing)

Step 3 - When the login Window appears, click the Setup button. This will launch the licence setup wizard which requires Internet access when it runs.

Step 4 - Enter your Product ID and Product Key when prompted.

Step 5 - When you are offered to create an encryption key, clear the check box to create an encryption key before continuing through the wizard.

Step 6 - Once the wizard has completed a dialog will appear offering to back up the key-file.  Save this key-file backup to a USB device, you should keep a copy of this file on non-encrypted storage as a backup.

On the machine that does not have Internet Access -

Step 1 – Download the DESlock+ client software, install it and restart when prompted.

For instructions on how to install DESlock+ on a managed client please see the following article KB253 - Installing a managed version of DESlock+

For instructions on how to install DESlock+ on a standalone client please see the following article KB124 - Getting started with DESlock+ (Installation and licencing)

Step 2 – When the login Window appears, click the Restore button. This will launch a file dialog Window.

Step 3 – Plug-in the USB device which you used to save the key-file to on the machine with Internet access, locate the key-file you saved previously and double click it.

If you happen to have multiple machines which don’t have internet access you should repeat the process above to create another key-file for the machines without internet access. If you must use the same machine to create the key-files you will need to do the following to reset the licensing for the system which is connected to the internet.

Step 1 – Log out of DESlock+, please see the following article for how to do so KB270 - How do I login to or logout of DESlock+?

Step 2 – Logout of DESlock+

Step 3 – Open the Key-file utility and select Backup and Reset Key-File to blank. Please see the following article for instructions KB45 - How can I delete a Key-File?

Step 4 – When you have backed up and reset your Key-File to blank, the setup process should start again. Now please refer to the On the system with Internet Access section of this article to create a new file and repeat the whole process for a new machine.
